Workers took down the Alamo Plaza Hotel Courts sign on Fort Worth Avenue Thursday. It was the last piece of the old motel on the tract that is to become Sylvan | Thirty, a retail/residential development from Oak Cliff-based developer Brent Jackson.
The sign will be moved into storage during construction, and beyond that, its fate is unknown.
The developer has asked the community for ideas on how to reuse the sign. That didn’t go over very well with preservationists, who say Jackson had promised the sign would be reused in the new development.
Oak Cliff-based photographer captured these photos, as well as the video below, of the sign coming down.
