DISD teacher of the year candidate

TOY FINALIST JOSHUA NEWTON Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center math teacher Joshua Newton is a candidate for DISD teacher of the year.

Newton serves as a department co-chair, and he regularly analyzes date looking for better ways to teach and implement innovative strategies for teachers and students. He often volunteers his Saturdays to bring students to competitions.

There are five finalists for DISD teacher of the year. The others are Paula Cushanick, a prekindergarten teacher at Albert Sidney Johnston Elementary School; Kevin Grimes, an eighth-grade history and global studies teacher at George Bannerman Dealey Montessori; Beth Poquette Drews, a music teacher at Harold Wendell Lang Sr. Middle School; and Seagoville Elementary School librarian Linda Wood.

The winner will be announced at a dinner on May 14.
