A daylong celebration of the written word is in store at Oil and Cotton this Saturday, July 20. The free event, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. includes typography-related artwork, a small-press and artisanal book sale, a book swap, a poetry workshop and more.

10-10:30 a.m.
Coffee, Cigarettes and a Newspaper — Local journalists will choose an article from a variety of newspapers and read aloud as we enjoy coffee from Liz Goulding’s roving coffee shop featuring Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters. Liz will provide a coffee recipe book with instructions on how to make a perfect cup of coffee

11-11:30 a.m.
Blackout and cut up poems — Cut and paste found words gleaned from the newspaper, books and other printed media to create poems with The Wild Detectives, a soon to be book store on 8th Street. Poets from Spain and New York will Skype in and present readings as we work

11-11:30 a.m.
Intuitive calligraphy — Artist Andrea Estrada will gaze into your soul and gift you with a word handwritten in her fine script

Flash book with Evan Cleveland – Make a small book super fast

noon-12:30 p.m.
Silent song — Jennifer McNabb from Resolana will share artwork and writing projects made with women incarcerated at the Dallas County jail

noon-1 p.m.
Ex Libris — Artist Kyle Hobratschk will lead you through the making of a bookplate etched into a copper plate on his beautiful press

Print proof — Pull a screen printed READ-RITE poster with Ryan and Rachel Rushing

Oral Fixation reading
