Babb Bros. BBQ & Blues has been open for a few months now, but I’ve never seen much of a crowd there, and that suits me just fine. Babb Bros. serves delicious barbecue with simple, homemade sides, and their Austin-style juke-joint plays ESPN on big screens during days and evenings, live blues some nights. They’re located in the shadow of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge in the soon-to-be-hopping Trinity Groves area, where multiple new restaurants are planned.

If the best fertilizer for a young business is the footprint of its owners, then Babb Bros. is bountiful territory, indeed. Founding brothers Mike, Bob and Davy can be regularly found behind the counter, schmoozing with customers and serving up tender brisket, jalapeno sausage, collard greens and cold beer. Though live artists and blues bands come in regularly to perform, the talented brothers also enjoy getting onstage to join the fun.

Since the doors first opened, Babb Bros. has steadily added to their menu, which you can view here. The cornbread and potato salad are recent additions, but I can’t lay off the pulled pork, creamed corn and cheesy potatoes.

But – for heaven’s sake – don’t tell anyone.
