Around the ‘hood: Bank robbery, no mojitos, burglary and kittens

Police are looking for the robber who held up Compass bank on West Jefferson Wednesday. He got away with almost $8,000.

A bartender competition scheduled for Labor Day, the Dallas Mojito Pour Off, has been canceled. The organizers, who also organized the Margarita Meltdown in May, say the mojito contest was canceled due to a scheduling conflict.

Avi Selk, the Dallas Morning News reporter who used to cover crime and now covers Irving, lives in Oak Cliff. And his house has been broken into three times in fewer than three months. He says he has considered moving, but decided against it. Also, he rescues kittens.

Some neighbors found a dog tied by a garden hose to a tree in Oak Cliff last week and rescued it.
