This weekend: Texas Theatre shows, Safe Room Gallery opening and live music

600full-polyester-posterRemember Morton Downey Jr., the angry, shouty host of the Morton Downey Jr. Show in the ’80s who was also a KGBS DJ and program director in Dallas? The Texas Theatre is showing a documentary about him tonight only. The show starts at 7:15.

The Texas Theatre also is showing “Polyester” at 9:30 p.m. tonight, Aug. 8, and Friday, Aug. 9. Dress up as your favorite Jonathan Waters character for the after party Friday with DJ Wild in the Streets.

The theater also has a comedy show Saturday night. An independent film from 2012, “Post Tenebrus Lux” shows Friday and Sunday. And on Sunday at 6 p.m., the theater screens “The Good Son: The Life of Ray Boom Boom Mancini” with a live Skype chat with Mancini after the show.

The Safe Room Gallery at the Texas Theatre opens “Am I Still Ill” from artist Sally Glass at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10.

The Kessler Theater has Crystal Bowersox tonight. Oil Boom performs Friday. Carolyn Wonderland and Hunter Hendrickson perform Saturday. And on Sunday, Young Dubliners perform along with Home by Hovercraft.
