Veasey, who won the new District 33 last November, has made some high-profile news lately. He opposed the Obama administration’s efforts to block the proposed U.S. Airways/American Airlines merger, while most Texas lawmakers have failed to take a stand.

Veasey traveled to Israel to meet with Israeli President Shimon Peres and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud, prior to peace talks last week.

He’s also been trying to get Texas Sen. Wendy Davis a speaking engagement at the Democratic National Convention.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram already is predicting that Oak Cliff’s own Domingo Garcia will run against Veasey next year.

The town hall meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20 in Weiss Auditorium at Methodist hospital.
