The Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts hosts “Rising Star,” an exhibition and fundraiser, this weekend. Twelve gallery owners have nominated artists who are not yet represented by galleries, to participate in the group show. A fundraiser from 7-9 p.m. Saturday will feature Barry Whistler, who will talk about contemporary Texas art. Tickets cost $50 for members and $75 otherwise. A free public reception is from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Turner House.

The Oak Cliff Cultural Center presents a night of spoken word with Erica GDLR starting at 7 p.m. Saturday.
