Attending the opening of a Walmart is like the opening day of baseball for, say, a Chicago Cubs fan. No one actually believes the Cubs can win the pennant, but even if for just one day, there is hope.
A new Walmart Supercenter opened at Interstate 35 and Ledbetter this morning.
“It’s so nice in here,” says Cheryl Haines of south Oak Cliff, who was shoe shopping Wednesday just before lunchtime. “Everything is just so nice.”
Every cash register staffed, every employee friendly and helpful. No shortage of Danskin yoga pants or plain white T-shirts. Free cake and balloon animals. A parking lot free of dirty diapers and birds fighting over a tire-smashed Big Mac.
So will the new Oak Cliff Walmart better than the Dante’s “Inferno” Walmart? On this day, there is hope.
