The picture above, taken by New York Times photographer Doug Mills and published by the Associated Press, is from President Obama’s visit to Dallas this week, and it generated a lot of buzz on social media. We reached out to Dallas County Commissioner Elba Garcia of Oak Cliff, who’s in the center of the picture, to see if she could clue us in on the joke, but so far, she hasn’t responded.
A strange and sad incident at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship church this week: A man with puncture wounds to his neck died in the parking lot before emergency responders arrived. The man who died was from Tyler, and no members of the church apparently knew him.

It’s a great story from an Oak Cliff lifer, all about being a college student so poor that he resorted to living in Cockrell Hill, among other things.
