News roundup: Why is the streetcar project stalled?

newsCity Councilman Scott Griggs says the city’s Trinity River office is at least six months behind on needed repairs to the Houston Street Viaduct, which means the bridge can’t open to vehicles until next year. What’s more troubling is that the office didn’t offer that information during a periodic update a few months ago. Even though the streetcar extension from Methodist to Bishop Arts is funded, the city hasn’t done anything to move forward on building it.

City Councilman Dwaine Caraway wants to rename Lancaster Boulevard for the late Nelson Mandela, but some business owners on Lancaster are opposed to the change.
