If you’re reading this, maybe you will vote in the May 7 school board election. But historically, only about 4 percent of registered voters in Dallas go to the polls in May elections.

Every DISD trustee seat is contested, so it’s possible we could have an entirely new board.

Dallas Independent School District board of trustees president Eric Cowan, who represents our neighborhood, isn’t running for reelection. And two highly qualified candidates are vying to replace him.

Isaac Faz, 41, lives in Kings Highway and attended L.O. Donald Elementary, Greiner Middle School and Skyline High School. He’s a lawyer who has worked for state Rep. Raphael Anchia and with Ambassador Ron Kirk in the Office of the United States Trade Representative. He currently is Vice Chancellor of Public and Governmental Affairs at the Dallas County Community College District. Here is Faz’s website.

Audrey Pinkerton, 46, lives in East Kessler and also attended DISD schools, graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School. She also has two children in DISD schools. She has and MBA and a background in corporate business. She and her husband, Will, own a construction firm, and she offers a long list of accomplishments in the way of neighborhood volunteerism. Here is Pinkerton’s website.

We will have more on these candidates soon.
