Much like the great rapper Shock G, I once got busy in a Burger King Bathroom. And by “busy” I mean mopping floors and wiping down baseboards.

Because my high school job was working as a Burger King cashier in Duncanville.

I started when I was 15 years old, making $3.50 an hour, 15 cents above the minimum wage in 1990.

At that job, I learned to use a broom and count change. And I actually met my former husband there. He drove an El Camino, and to this day, I still think El Caminos are cool. He also had a mullet.

Later I worked at Bennigan’s, Tia’s Tex-Mex and Merry Go Round at Red Bird Mall. Terrible jobs, all of them.

I’m bringing this up, Oak Cliff, because I want to know about your terrible summer job. Or your magically fun summer job. Or the one that taught you life lessons.

Email me about your summer job, and we will consider your story for an upcoming feature in the Oak Cliff Advocate. Bonus points if you had a mullet.
