Laura Pulis of Kings Highway, an interior designer who was a longtime Rosemont Early Childhood PTA member, has died.
She was 41.
Pulis, who was featured in a February 2013 Advocate story about long-lasting marriages, was taken by cancer after a three-year illness.
Below is her full obituary, from her husband, Joel Pulis. The Pulises have a 13-year-old daughter, Grace.
Laura Ellen Pulis joined her Lord and Savior on June 11, 2016 at the age of 41 after fighting cancer for three years. She was born in Dallas, TX on May 19, 1975 to Bill and Susan Leftwich. She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Joel Pulis, and their daughter Grace who is 13, her parents, Bill and Susan Leftwich, and brother, Greg Leftwich. She also leaves behind aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many close friends who deeply loved her and will greatly miss her.
Laura grew up in DeSoto, TX and graduated from DeSoto High School in 1993. She received a Bachelor of Science from Baylor University in 1997. She married her life long sweetheart, Joel, on June 21, 1997, and they have enjoyed a beautiful and rich love together. Laura made a career of interior design, working in a variety of commercial, residential and church spaces throughout Texas. She was an active member of Cliff Temple Baptist Church, an involved resident of Oak Cliff, and a long time member of RECPTA. Laura was full of joy and kindness and was often referred to as a “light” by those whom she encountered. She had a beaming smile and comforting presence. All who encountered her enjoyed her company as she made everyone feel special. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining, spending time with friends, and traveling. Laura was a follower of Christ and shared His love with all whom she met. She lived each day to the fullest and trusted God with the future.
Services will be at Cliff Temple Baptist Church, 125 Sunset Ave., Dallas 75208 at 11:00am on Wednesday, June 15. Visitation with family will follow the service. Graveside service will be held at Laurel Land Funeral Home and Cemetery at 2:00pm.
Laura was passionate about serving those who were in need or forgotten. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials be made for two projects: (1) a remodeling project at the Well Community, honoring Laura’s love of interior design and (2) breast cancer screenings for under-served Oak Cliff residents.
