That show and two others this weekend are sold out. The band and the theater presented the school with an oversized check for $17,000 at a reception Wednesday.

It was also guitarist Kenny Withrow’s birthday, and there was a cake with a likeness of the cover for their hit album “Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars,” which was released in 1988.

La Rondalla provides free after-school music lessons, taught by professional musicians, to 130 kids who otherwise might not have access to the arts. This is Edie Brickell and New Bohemians’ third major gift to the nonprofit music school.

Advocate photo editor Danny Fulgencio brought us these photos from the event.
