Two of the biggest shows in competitive reality TV are giving Oak Cliff someone to root for this summer.
“Food Network Star” announced this week that Caodan Tran of Oak Cliff will be one of 12 competitors on that show, which premieres June 4.
Tran, who runs a personal chef service, is “known for her fresh, clean and simple approach to modern Vietnamese cuisine.”

Caodan, 29, didn’t learn to cook until it became a life necessity as an adult. Raised in an ultra-competitive family, Caodan realized that cooking was the best way to learn about a culture without traveling. Caodan currently owns a personal chef service, doing everything from pop-up dinners to private dinner parties. Known for her fresh, clean and simple approach to modern Vietnamese cuisine, Caodan considers herself hyper-ambitious and strong headed in a good way.
Tran’s turn on TV comes just after the debut of the first African American to star on “The Bachelorette.”
Rachel Lindsay, who stars on that show beginning May 22 on ABC, is from Oak Cliff. The appeared as a contestant on the most recent season of “The Bachelor.”
Lindsay, 31, is an associate at a Downtown Dallas law firm. She attended First Baptist Academy in Oak Cliff and has degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and Marquette University Law School.
