For the first time in decades, Oak Cliff children, adults and dogs will go without the magical, mythical shaved ice known as Aunt Stelle’s sno cones.

The beloved neighborhood sno-cone stand had been expected to open for the season this past Saturday.

But the owners announced on Facebook early Saturday morning that they’d decided not to open:

As you know, today was supposed to be opening day for the shop. However through many tears, discussions, prayers and sleepless nights we have decided to close for the 2017 season. Too many difficult events during our “off season” has led us to this decision. We ask that y’all respect our privacy in this matter. Love, Lee (Freda), Ed, & Mark

Owner Lee Albert, who inherited the shop from her parents (her mom was Aunt Stelle), has said in the past that when she and her husband decide to retire, they will close the shop. Here’s hoping they decide to reopen for summer 2018.
