One of our neighborhood’s best Tex-Mex restaurants is gone, along with the 77-year-old building that housed it.

But Advocate photo editor Danny Fulgencio offers us a proper wake with these photos from the demolition of El Corazon de Tejas Tuesday. Workers found a few treasures in the rubble, including a swag of patriotic bunting, a printed tortilla manifesto (Tex-Mex had been served there since the 1950s as El Chico and then Tejano Restaurant) and an antique 7 Up sign.
