The owner of a 100-year-old apartment building near Lake Cliff Park pulled a permit for demolition, triggering the city’s new demolition-delay ordinance.
The building, 834 Blaylock at Colorado, was built in 1912 and is outside of the bounds of the Lake Cliff Historic District.
Beverly A. Mendoza of the Lake Cliff Historic District says that a former landlord had requested to exempt his three adjacent properties from the historic district when it was formed.
“We in Lake Cliff cannot state strongly enough how this property should not go down,” Mendoza says. “If we could get the three properties [added to] the district, this would be our preference.”
The property falls within the city’s new demolition-delay overlay, which requires a hearing before certain properties can be torn down.
The city’s Landmark Commission will hold a hearing for the property at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, in room 5BN at City Hall.
