“As I Walk Through the Valley” screens Friday at the Wild Detectives
The 2017 Oak Cliff Film Festival kicks off Friday, and there are screenings all over the neighborhood. Make your schedule here, and buy tickets. Or make plans for some of the free events, such as “Something Wild,” which shows at the Better Block at 8:45 p.m. Saturday.

The Buckner Family Hope Center at Wynnewood hosts the Summer FamFest and Health Fair from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday at Wynnewood Village. There will be train rides for kids, free health screenings, giveaways and food trucks. Plus performances from the Sunset High School drum line and a gospel group.
“Officer Buckle and Gloria” is the book for the next installment of Kids in the Cliff at the Wild Detectives. Storytelling starts at 10:30 a.m.
