This wall of mementos at Norma’s Cafe pays tribute to their regular customer, Brent Thompson, the DART officer who was killed in the July 7, 2016 ambush Downtown.
Norma’s tweeted the above photo of the memorial with the caption, “All gave some, some gave all. Today we honor our fallen friends and will never forget. We ask you to wear blue in their memory.”
Thompson, who had six children and one stepchild, had been married about two weeks before he was killed. He was known for his kindness with the less fortunate, carrying small amounts of cash for those in need and handing out stickers to children.
From a Dallas Morning News profile of Thompson and the four Dallas Police officers who were killed:
At Norma’s Cafe in Oak Cliff, a wall is covered with mementos for Brent, who used to stop by and order bacon and eggs. General manager Pam Spell attached a plaque to his chair. When people sit there, she makes a point of telling them they’re in a “power chair,” and then she tells them about Brent.
