#FBF: 1950s Wynnewood Village

The owner of Wynnewood Village shopping center announced it is planning to invest about $30 million into updating the center, and there are plans for future phases of redevelopment as well.

Now the shopping center is home to Foot Locker, Taco Bell, a Kroger store, a Chase bank and a lot of discount clothing stores.

It’s still a useful place, but it’s far from the vortex it once was. Back in the 1950s and ’60s, Wynnewood had everything: Grocery stores, department stores, a five-and-dime, a drug store, local restaurants, a bakery, a florist, a jewelry store, a shoe store, a sewing shop a toy store and more.

Back in 2010, local history writer Gayla Brooks offered a nostalgic column about the old days of Wynnewood. Read it here.
