February is here, but that doesn’t mean it’s time kick your resolutions to the curb.
Good SpaceDash for the Beads returns this Saturday to keep your fitness goals in sight.
This 10th-annual Dash for the Beads tours hilly Kessler Park, offering 10k, 5k and 1-mile routes.
Dig out the running shoes, download a playlist, and sign up for the race to:
(1) Support Oak Cliff schools
Last year the race raised $30,000, which was donated to neighborhood schools and nonprofits, including the Rosemont Dad’s Club, Reagan Elementary, Stevens Park Elementary, Adamson High School and Promise House. Schools and nonprofits can apply for grants from Dash for the Beads here.
(2) Enter a costume contest
There will be prizes for the fastest runners, but showing great style can also make you a winner. Awards for best costumes will be given out at 11:30 a.m.
(3) Listen to live music
The Squeeze Box Bandits and The Raised Right Men perform at the race afterparty, starting around 11 a.m.
(4) Eat and drink
Registration includes cupfuls from beer sponsor the Texas Ale Project, mimosas and food.
(5) Sit on the sidelines
This year’s Dash for the Beads offers a party package for those of us who would rather have a root canal than run two steps. The spectator package includes a T-shirt, meal and beverages.
