There’s nothing better than writing stuff for you guys and then having you click on the stories, comment and contribute to the discussion, which happens very frequently because you guys rock. Here are some of our most popular stories from the past year.
Our No. 1 online post of the year was of this video from Quintanilla Middle School teacher Thom Browne, who won a contest with a poem about his students. He will speak at the Extra Yard for Teachers Summit Jan. 10. The event is free for teachers, but you must register.
Two of our history columns from the Oak Cliff Advocate received beaucoup hits online this year. One is about the old Westcliff Mall, and another was about a 1920s retail strip in the 700 block of Pierce.
Our readers are stoked about grilled cheese, according to the massive amount of traffic this post about the Dallas Grilled Cheese Co. received. The restaurant in Bishop Arts is expected to open in January.
Here’s an update on the “most anticipated Oak Cliff restaurants in 2014”: Chino Chinatown, now open; the old El Padrino is now C Señor; Noble Rey got caught up in the Dallas Horseshoe construction and decided to move to the Design District instead; Small Brew Pub, now open; Bishop Cider Co., now open; Ten ramen at Sylvan Thirty, coming in 2015?; Stock & Barrel, now open; Off Site Kitchen, now under construction; Saint Rocco, coming in 2015?
Speaking of restaurants, we also served you the dish on the wine bar and restaurant coming to the old Cannon’s Village and four West Dallas dives you should try, and then we complained about all the restaurants we don’t have.
We were pleased to break the story on the old Cannon’s Village renovation. We also noticed these two historic Tyler Street properties, which by the way, are still on the market.
