DISD has agreed to allow the Old Oak Cliff Conservation League to put up for sale the 95-year-old church at the center of a conservation dispute.

The school district bought the church last year and had plans to demolish it to make way for a school to replace Adamson High School. But conservationists sued the district in an effort to save the church from the wrecking ball.

Under an agreement reached this week, the conservation league has until Aug. 16 to find a buyer, and the sale must close by Oct. 29. DISD paid about $450,000 for the church and already had started asbestos abatement and internal demolition before the lawsuit was filed. The league dropped its suit as part of the settlement.

If the league doesn’t find a buyer, the district can demolish the building.
