A Sunset High School alumna is taking the helm of her alma mater.

Claudia Vega graduated from Sunset in 1996, and she takes over as principal for the coming school year.

Vega most recently served four years as principal of Eduardo Mata Elementary School in East Dallas. That school became the first “school of choice” campus in the Dallas Independent School District two years ago, when it began implementing a Montessori structure.

In a letter to Mata parents, Vega said, “Sunset and the Oak Cliff community are home for me.”
