The L.O. Daniel Neighborhood Association started work Saturday on a park at Marlborough and Jefferson. Neighbor Shannon Neffendorf donated the lot, and the association got a $10,000 "Loving My Community" grant to make it happen.

A few months ago, neighbors cleared the lot of trash. And Saturday, they weeded it and used a skid loader to level the ground. City Council member Delia Jasso was on hand for the ceremonial ground breaking, and neighbors from the adjacent apartment building pitched in to work with gusto, pulling weeds and clearing the lot.

Next, the neighborhood association hopes to add drought resistant landscaping with the help of Picture Perfect Landscaping, and they’re bidding on iron fencing from the old Colorado Place Apartments.
