Neighbors raise thousands for cancer-stricken community volunteer

Vicki Fitzgerald wasn’t well enough to attend the benefit in her honor at the Kessler Theater Sunday. But some 300 neighbors attended, bringing in over $6,000 to help Fitzgerald with her medical bills.

Fitzgerald, who is a volunteer with the Old Oak Cliff Conservation League and Turner House, was diagnosed with throat cancer last year.

If you missed the benefit, it’s not to late to help. Her friends set up a website, which includes information on how to donate.
