Jonathon’s opened on Beckley at El Dorado, in the building that formerly housed Beckley Brewhouse, a couple of months ago. And already it has become a favorite brunch spot.

Two things to note about Jonathon’s: It has more tables than the old place, as the new owners took out the club chairs. And the service at Jonathon’s, in my experience, is very good. Our waiter was friendly and attentive and offered near perfect service.

The menu is small and simple, which is always a good sign, and it’s also creative. I tried bubble and squeak, which featured mashed-potato pancakes and perfectly seasoned collard greens with a tasty pan gravy. It was different and delicious.

A friend tried the chicken and waffles, which comes with chicken and gravy atop the waffle. And another ordered “danger dogs”, which are turkey sausages fried in pancake batter and served on a stick, corndog style.

Jonathon’s also has a Bloody Mary bar, and although we haven’t tried the desserts, we hear they’re terrific.
