Kiest Park crash kills one

Lance Carter

Police charged a man with manslaughter Sunday, accusing him of running a red light and causing a fatal accident near Kiest Park.

The Dallas Police Department says 42-year-old Xin Yong Yang was driving in the 2300 block of Kiest around 8:45 p.m. when 34-year-0ld Lance Carter ran the light at Hampton and killed him.

Carter told police he believed he was being followed by associates of a man who previously had killed his brother and a friend and that he was speeding and ran the red light in an effort to evade being robbed. Police say a witness reported that Carter had a train horn, which he blew as he approached the intersection to warn cars of his passing.

Carter was taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center with minor injuries and is currently in Dallas County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.

UPDATE: Carter was sentenced to six months in jail and 10 years probation for the manslaughter conviction.
