The Trinity Presbyterian Church, built in 1950, now is getting a new life as Chijmes, a wedding venue and boutique hotel.

Chijmes is the idea of Andra Maldovan, the owner of Dallas-based Keaton Interiors, whose clients include Magnolia Property Co., which is developing the apartments.

The first event in the former church takes place this coming weekend. The hotel is expected to open in May.

It will have 12 rooms, each uniquely designed based on inspiration from Maldovan’s time living in Singapore. It also has a deck with a skyline view. The church is on the site of J.F. Zang’s own home in what was called the “Crystal Hill Addition.”
