King, a singer/songwriter who attends Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, was one of 710 finalists selected from thousands of high-school age applicants from 44 states.

The winners “gain access to one of the most comprehensive programs for emerging artists in the United States, offering financial, professional and artistic development opportunities over the course of their careers,” according to a media release from the foundation.
