A group of community leaders and business owners launched #SaveOC3 last week, noting that the center’s three employees have been furloughed or reassigned to other departments. At that time, they said, there were no answers on whether the center would be reopening.

West says the center will be open through December for virtual programming in accordance with physical distancing requirements.

The center’s manager, Rafael Tamayo, says neighbors should “be on the lookout for a community feedback meeting where we’ll gather your questions and concerns.”

A virtual meeting will be set up in the next couple of weeks, West says.

I’m thrilled to report that our Oak Cliff Cultural Center will be expanding virtual, COVID-19 safe programming from October to December 2020. There is not and has not been a plan by City staff to close down OC3—the plan has always been to continue in-person programming in Jan 2021, depending on social distancing requirements. Public safety, especially given the uptick in positive COVID tests in 75211 and 75216, is a concern, and like libraries, recreation centers, and other cultural centers, OC3 will continue to stay closed until it is safe to offer on site programming. . What kind of virtual programming will be offered? That’s up to you! Staff and Arts and Culture Commissioners, Meghan Bridgeman and Yolanda Alameda, will host a community feedback session within the next two weeks. Details about the community meeting will be posted on the district one Facebook page, my personal page, and in north oak cliff neighbors. Or email Ashley.long@dallascityhall.com to receive an email notification. . OC3 is a wonderful part of our diverse, culturally rich communities, and I am excited to hear the creative ideas that you come up with!
