The district made the announcement Thursday. This contradicts an earlier message that there would not be a virtual option because there was no funding from the Texas Education Agency. However, the district is still encouraging as many students as possible to attend in-person classes.

All Dallas ISD students have returned to school this year.

Only select students will be eligible. They include students who are too young to be vaccinated or students who are “medically fragile.

DISD also is offering free home internet to all families.

The deadline to apply for the virtual academy is Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. The virtual academy begins Aug. 24.
