But the actual deck is under construction now.

The Southern Gateway Public Green Foundation recently shared these photos, by Benjamin Mishler of SkySights Photography.

When it opens, the 2.8-acre park will be a pedestrian connection between the Dallas Zoo and central Oak Cliff. It’s also expected to be among the city’s “signature parks,” with amenities like playgrounds, splash pads, sidewalks and landscaping, an amphitheater and “flex building,” similar to Dallas’ other deck park.

This is only phase one of the park, between Ewing and Lancaster, and the park itself will cost about $82 million, with about $35 million of that coming from private donations or philanthropic funds. A second phase will span from Lancaster to Marsalis, bringing the park to a total of 5 acres.
