The lavandería/taquería/sno-cone stand at 1700 W. 10th St. could become a family friendly restaurant if a zoning-change request, filed Nov. 2, is approved.

The current business serves takeout as a retail space, but this request is for a full-service restaurant, which its zoning doesn’t allow.

The building was constructed as a Magnolia/Mobil gas station 91 years ago, when it was on The Boundary streetcar line and just off the Bankhead Highway. It is currently for sale.

Winnetka Heights resident Chad Dolezal is the chef behind the idea. He previously helmed The Hightower in Austin. Dolezal said “it’s very early in the process” and declined to share any specific plans.

Here’s the wording from the request:

The building is in a historic district, and the request doesn’t propose changes to the building footprint, but it would add an adjacent outdoor seating area. Exterior renovations to the building must be approved by the Dallas Landmark Commission. The “remote parking within 300 feet” could be Calvary of Oak Cliff church, about a block away.
