Valentine’s Day tip: It’s not really sexy to give chocolate that could’ve come from child slave labor.

Luckily, our neighborhood has no shortage of local chocolatiers.

One of them, CocoAndré, was listed among Condé Nast Traveler’s “The best chocolate from around the world to gift this Valentine’s Day.”

Not only is the family owned business on the list, the magazine put their $9 La Picosita Bar first:

CocoAndré is run by a Mexican-American mother-daughter team in Dallas’s Oak Cliff neighborhood. As a master chocolatier, Andrea Pedraza likes to imbue Mexican ingredients with European techniques. This is demonstrated in the La Picosita Bar, a spicy combination of chocolate from Chiapas, Mexico, chile guajillo, and a crunchy pepitas finish. For something a little more potent, consider the 85 percent chocolate bar.

Be sure to shop local this Valentine’s Day, whatever you buy. If chocolate isn’t in the cards, how about books?
