A new juice bar called Pressed by Perla opens this weekend at 443 West Davis. For the grand opening celebration — Saturday (May 28) from noon until 6 p.m., owner Perla Murillo says there will be a live DJ and complimentary champagne.
Murillo started crafting cold pressed juices 100% from fruits and veggies in 2020. Working as an insurance adjuster, running a to-go business, and hosting pop-up events from time to time, she wanted nothing more than her own juice bar. After taking a risk, working hard for months and preparing for years, it’s time, she says.
And studies show it’s a good time to be in the juicing industry.
According to a 2016 consumer trend report from Technomic, the juicing industry in the past decade has blossomed into a $9 billion per year one worldwide ($2.2 billion here in the States). It is a trend continuing to grow at a rate of 7% a year. Technomic also reported that 40% of consumers said they were more likely to order form a place that served healthy options.
Consumers define healthy food “as being rich in antioxidants, strengthening to the immune system, and providing benefits that are not just physical, but also spiritual and mental,” the study revealed.
And that’s what Perla is all about.
On Instagram last week, she thanked all of her supporters. “The store is opening because of all of you. I quit my job to pursue my dream because you supported me and believed in me. I promise to uplift you and be here to for you to serve you the best juices. You’re not a customer to me, you are a sister, brother, friend, best friend, tia, tio, mama and everything and more.”
The Oak Cliff born-and-raised businesswoman says that after five years with State Farm, she was ready to give herself full-time to the juice-bar life.
“It’s been a journey since I quit my job, anxiety and pressure, but with god with my side, I’ve made it through some battles,” Murillo says. “I get those little doubts in my mind, but I know this is where I’m supposed to be and this is my purpose.”
