A Dallas man was arrested for murder after police responded to a shooting at a Family Dollar store at the intersection of E Kiest Boulevard and S Lancaster Road Wednesday evening.

Police say Kevin Jackson Sr. entered the store and witnessed a physical fight between store employees and a man, Phillip Betts. According to reports, Jackson proceeded to shoot Betts, who police say collapsed outside of the store and was declared dead on the scene. No other injuries were reported.

According to police, the victim was attempting to shoplift from the store, which lead to the altercation between him and the employees.

The victim did not have a weapon, police say. Police also said the gun used in the shooting was legally owned.

Jackson is being held on a $100,000 bond at the Dallas County jail.
