And Oak Cliff schools dominated the tournament, placing first in six out of nine categories.

In the best medium band category, Sunset High School and Carter High School tied for first, while Townview Magnet Center clinched the best large band division.

South Oak Cliff tied for first in the drum major category with Skyline High School.

The award for outstanding Majorettes was given to Sunset High School, and Townview’s Percussion Line was recognized as best overall.

For the drumline award, Townview tied with Wilmer Hutchins High School.

Wilmer Hutchins was awarded the three divisions that an Oak Cliff school did not win: Best small band, best color guard and best dance team.

Overall, 14 marching bands competed in the competition, and $3,000 in scholarships were given out to students. All of the proceeds from the event were donated to DISD music programs.

As winners in the small and large band divisions, the marching bands from Wilmer Hutchins High School and Townview
Magnet Center were invited to perform at The Cotton Bowl as part of the entertainment for the State Fair Classic, played between Prairie View A&M University and Grambling State University.
