George Kaiho, bar manager at Sylvan 30s Jettison, will test out his cocktail-making guns at the championship’s inaugural mixology competition, which will be held Nov. 10 and 11 at Fair Park. Kaiho is no stranger to the cocktail competition scene, as the Advocate wrote in 2017.

10 bartenders from around the U.S. will be competing for the $5,000 cash prize, with four finalists creating dessert cocktail samples.

Francesco Lafranconi, who previously served as Executive Director of Mixology and Spirits Educator for Southern Glazer Wine and Spirits of America, will preside over the competition as the emcee and master judge.

“I’m eager to see how some of the world’s best mixologists share their vision and talent with the spirits world through this new competition platform,” Lafranconi said.

General admission to the entire championship starts at $25 a ticket. Cook-offs in sandwiches, burgers, soups, seafood, noodles and more will also take place throughout the competition weekend.
