Four Dallas ISD educators from Oak Cliff schools have been recognized as finalists for the 2023-2024 Teacher and Principal of the Year awards.

Ten teacher of the year finalists and seven principal of the year finalists were announced in total, and winners will be announced on April 4 at the 2023-2024 State of the District event. Finalists and winners will be given between $1,500 and $5,000 awards thanks to a sponsorship from Reliant secured by the Dallas Education Foundation.

For the Teacher of the Year Elementary category, Antonio Barnes from Martin Weiss Elementary is one of four finalists. For choice/magnet schools, Amanda Ashmead was named representing the School of Science and Engineering at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center.

For Principal of the Year, Lakisha Merritt of Martin Weiss Elementary School was named for the elementary finalists, and David Lee of Hector P. Garcia Middle School was named for secondary school finalists.
