The Dallas Zoo suffered extensive tree damage after strong storms Tuesday morning.
The zoo had a delayed opening of 10 a.m. on Wednesday after being closed all day Tuesday due to the significant hit they took from the weather. While most areas of the Zoo are accessible to guests, some sections, particularly Gorilla Trail, may still be affected as the staff continues to remove downed tree limbs.
Kari Streiber, VP of Marketing and Communications, said all of the animals were safe, and the zoo only had minor structural damage and no habitat damage.
“We are so, so fortunate,” Streiber said. “And a huge ‘thank you’ to our teams who were on the ground at the Zoo on Tuesday – assessing damage and reporting power outages early in the day, and then throughout the day, helping remove debris and clean the Zoo. It’s the work you may not normally associate with the Zoo, but it is so critical on days like yesterday.”
