From June 20-23, the Oak Cliff Film Festival returns with a 27 feature lineup, set to screen at the Texas Theatre and other Oak Cliff venues.
Thursday, June 20. Texas Theatre, 7:30 p.m. – On opening night at the Texas Theatre, Omar and Cedric: If This Ever Gets Weird makes it’s DFW premiere. It’s comprised of archival footage of Omar Rodriguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala, core members of iconic Texas bands At The Drive-In and The Mars Volta. After the screening, local bands Perdidos and Dezorah play a special ‘Behind The Screen’ set.
Saturday, June 22. Texas Theatre, 8:00 p.m. – Speaking of performances, eccentric ’60s/’70s R&B performer, Swamp Dogg, will give a rare live performance on Saturday night, following a screening of his documentary, Swamp Dogg Gets His Pool Painted. The 81-year-old singer will be joined in attendance by the film’s directors, Isaac Gale and Ryan Olson.
Sunday, June 23. Texas Theatre, 8:00 p.m. – Closing the festival, Between The Temples is a dramedy starring Jason Schwartzman and Carol Kane, written and directed by Nathan Silver.
Friday, June 21. Oak Cliff Assembly, 6:45 p.m. – Texas student short films will premiere at the Oak Cliff Assembly on Friday night, with most of the filmmakers in attendance.
Sunday, June 23. Texas Theatre, 1:15 p.m. – A special 40th anniversary presentation of TheTimes of Harvey Milk presented by the Office of City Council District 1.
Saturday, June 22. Bishop Arts Theatre Center, 5:45 p.m. – The film’s subject, 1970s Iranian immigrant Jamshid, will host a free outdoor ultimate frisbee tutorial with free frisbees given to the first 50 attendees.
