Lots has been happening in Dallas ISD this month, you can find this month’s updates below:

Dallas ISD and District 7 Monthly Updates

Superintendent kudos: As highlighted in the Dallas Morning News Opinion piece, Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde and her team are strengthening curriculum quality, clarifying and streamlining pathways and programs, and improving the school counselor framework to better educate our kids: our future workforce, leaders, and neighbors.

Congratulations to David Lee, Secondary Principal of the Year: I am so proud to announce that District 7’s very own David Lee, principal at Hector P. Garcia Middle School, has been named the district’s secondary Principal of the Year. Lee and his team have done amazing work making Garcia an absolute gem of a middle school and helping it earn its International Baccalaureate designation this year.

Dallas ISD is a national leader in sustainability practices: Four years ago, the school board adopted a resolution to identify and implement sustainable and environmentally sound practices in fiscally responsible ways. Over the last four years, Dallas ISD has become a national leader in this work. This month we had our annual report on progress. Below you’ll find some highlights:

  • Rolling out 17 electric school buses to be piloted next school year
  • Decrease of nearly 10% in water usage across from baseline
  • Decrease of more than 27% in natural gas usage from baseline
  • 100% renewable energy contract that has saved the district over $19 million since 2020, which has been put back into classrooms and schools

Upcoming Events:

  • 6 p.m., Thursday, May 23: Dallas ISD Board Meeting
  • Friday, May 24: Last day of school
