The program will help compensate for the temporary closure of Martin Weiss Pool, where Park and Recreation Department staff identified a significant water leak in May.

“I am incredibly disappointed by the news of this temporary pool closure right as we enter the summer season,” said Council Member Chad West. “I know how important our pools are for our community members, especially our families, to stay cool, active, and busy during the summer months. That is why the District 1 team worked with city staff to set up this program to offer free swim sessions to our 75211 residents in the meantime. I will continue to push staff to make sure the Martin Weiss pool is opened as soon as possible and encourage residents to visit Kidd Springs or Jaycee Zaragoza in the meantime.”

While there is currently no timetable for the pool repair, Councilmember West has requested weekly updates from department staff and will make sure the public is made aware of key updates. The city is working expeditiously to bring in an external professional to better identify the source of the leak and determine next steps to reopen the pool as soon as possible.

Residents can call 214-670-1926 for more information and can enroll in person for swimming sessions at either swim facility. They will need to bring identification to show their residence.
