Officer Darron Burks died after he was shot in his patrol car on August 29, outside Oak Cliff Community Center “For Oak Cliff.” The gunman also shot senior corporals Karissa David and Jamie Farmer as they responded.

Farmer was treated and released from the hospital shortly after, while David was shot multiple times in her face and abdomen and is currently blind in both eyes.

Officer David has had to go through multiple surgeries. She will undergo surgery on her jaw and teeth soon, her family said in a Friday update on a GoFundMe page. David, 27, will also have various appointments with specialists.

“Money that comes in will be used for modifications to their home, technology and devices that will aid her in living without her vision, and transportation to the therapies and care she needs,” her family wrote. “God has been ever-present in the last few weeks and we continue to give Him glory for her life and her strength and her spirit.”

On social media, Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia said he spent Friday afternoon with David.

“One of the strongest women I’ve ever met. She has an unbelievable spirit and sense of humor. Amazing, an absolute warrior,” wrote Garcia.

The Assist the Officer Foundation is continuing to raise money for the fallen Dallas police officer and two wounded officers. You can donate to the Assist the Officer Foundation here.
