Local community center For Oak Cliff is temporarily closing after a shooting that killed Officer Darron Burks and injured two others occurred on their campus.
“Last night, For Oak Cliff received the devastating news that Dallas police officer Darron Burks tragically lost his life following a shooting that occurred late after hours in the parking lot of our community campus,” the organization posted on social media following the shooting. “While this tragic incident occurred at our campus, we want to emphasize that it was a random and isolated event. We are fully cooperating with local authorities as they continue their investigation.”
Today, For Oak Cliff announced on social media that they will be “temporarily closed for all evening and weekend programming” due to “recent unfortunate events.” This includes their monthly farmer’s market that was set to take place tomorrow.
“The safety of our guests and staff is our top priority, and we are working hard to ensure a secure environment before resuming full operations,” the statement reads. “… We deeply appreciate your patience and understanding during this difficult time. Please join us for our next Farmers Market on October 5th, and thank you for your continued support.”
For Oak Cliff will remain open during normal business hours next week starting Thursday, Sept. 12 and Friday Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
