A string of houses in Oak Cliff are bringing the spooky Halloween spirit to the neighborhood.
“We’re like, two streets off of Winnetka Heights, so we don’t get anywhere near the traffic that they do,” says Angela, one of the neighbors who decked out her house on N Brighton Ave. “We were just like, yeah, we should do something fun. We’ve gotten a lot of attention from it too.”
Angela and her partner often sit with their neighbors Alejandro and Aaron, who started the tradition two years ago, to have happy hour on their porch.
“At some point, we decided we have to all do it,” Angela says. “It was kind of cold last year for Halloween, so we don’t really get that many trick-or-treaters, but I think it was an effort as a community to try to get more.”
The decorations transform the houses into Halloween monsters, complete with teeth and eyes. The whole process took Angela a couple of days and help from her partner, but the end product is perfectly haunting.
Angela says more neighbors are working on getting their displays up, and hopefully they can be enjoyed by trick-or-treaters across the neighborhood.
