Lonnie George Mosley, better known as L.G., was born the youngest of five children to James Esther Mosley Freeman and Everett Mosley on March 2, 1941, in Dallas, Texas. He passed into his eternal rest on October 22, 2024.
Wed to Jynnifer Needham Mosley at the tender age of 16, L.G. enjoyed a marriage of 66 years. He became the father of Tammy Mosley Hollingsworth, Lonnie Carl Mosley, Shelley Mosley Stanzel and Marshall Scott Mosley, as well as father-in-law to Billy Joe Hollingsworth, Jr., Richard Cary Stanzel, and Christine Morrison Mosley. He was the grandfather of 10; Joey & Cassie, Kristi & Wade, Dusti & Will, Chase & Emily, Chappell, Lauren & Thomas, Meagan & Robert, Lacy & Issac, Matty & Walker, and Libby. Great-grandfather of 18; Ashtyn & Ben, Gracie Faith, Kaden, Gracie Marie, Hunter, Emma, Addy, Reeve, Preston, Joe, Brynlee, Landon, Eli, Ava, Josie J, Leona, Weaver, Monty, and a great-great-grandfather of 2; Wescott and Reed.
L.G. was preceded in death by his mother, James Esther Mosley Freeman, Everett Mosley and sisters, Dorsey Jean Mosley and Rayanne Mosley Burrows. He is survived by his sister, Maureen Mosley Carter, and brother, James Lloyd “Lucky” Mosley.
L.G. had an innate understanding of the nuances of human nature, a rare gift he utilized throughout both his familial and commercial lives.
Blessed with an optimistic, colorful personality and an infectious charisma, L.G. was a true Horatio Alger. He was a promoter who could make anything sound exciting and possible – and unlike many, he could actually turn his ideas into reality.
Born into abject poverty with no father in his life, L.G. became the epitome of the American entrepreneur who did business on a handshake and whose word was his bond. He was dependable, reliable and always did what he said that he would do; he never re-traded a deal.
Armed with only an 8th grade education, L.G. started numerous successful businesses in a variety of fields. Ranging from his roofing company that he started at the age of twelve to negotiating oil deals in Europe, he was involved in roofing, land development, home building, oil, racehorses, real estate speculation, banks, an insurance company, car lots, and pawnshops, just to name a few.
He loved horses from an early age and was well-known nationally for the champion racehorses that he bred and raced.
But, most importantly, L.G. loved his family with a deep depth of gratitude and wanted to give his children the kind of father that he never had and his wife a husband of whom she could be proud.
He will be interred in Carlton, Texas. May he rest in peace and be blessed by residing in the presence of Our Lord Jesus Christ for eternity.
A Celebration of LG’s Life was Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Byrum Funeral Home Chapel with a Sunset graveside service that followed at Hollingsworth~Mosley Family Cemetery in Carlton, TX.
